Search Google for "software company in Amman" or "AC repair Riyadh". Before any website, you see a map with three businesses under it, each with stars, an address and a call button. Tapping one of those three is easier than opening any website, which makes them the most valuable spot in local search results.
Google itself names the three factors that decide who appears there: how relevant the business is to what the person searched for, how close it is to them, and how prominent it is. You control the first and the third.
How do you set up your Google Business Profile correctly?
Start with Google Business Profile. Create the profile, or claim it if one already exists, and complete verification. Then choose your primary category carefully, because it is the most important field in the profile. Pick the most accurate one for your work, and add secondary categories for your other services. Write the description in the language your customers use, mentioning your services and your city naturally. Add your real opening hours, and update them for Eid holidays and Ramadan.
Why must your address and phone number match everywhere?
Google compares your business details across your profile, your website, directories and social accounts. If the phone number is different in each place, or the address is written three ways, Google trusts the information less. Pick one version of your name, address and phone number, use it everywhere, and put it in your website footer and in the page's structured data.
How do you get genuine Google reviews?
Ask at the right moment, after you hand over the project or finish the job, while the customer is happy. Send them the short review link from the profile itself along with a brief thank-you. Reply to every review. Thank people for positive ones and mention the service; answer negative ones calmly and offer a fix without arguing. People who read your reviews later pay more attention to how you respond than to the rating itself.
Do not buy reviews or write them under other names. Google removes them and may restrict the whole profile.
- A complete profileright category, description, hours, photos
- Consistent detailsname, address and phone in the same format everywhere
- Genuine reviewsrequested after the job, all answered
- Steady activityphotos, posts, questions and answers
- A website that backs it upa page per service and city, plus structured data
Do photos and posts on your profile make a difference?
Photos clearly affect whether a visitor picks you. Real pictures of your office, your team and your work beat stock images. Posts and the Q&A section keep the profile active and answer people's questions before they call. Set aside fifteen minutes a week for it.
Why is my business not showing on Google Maps?
If your business does not appear even when people search for its exact name, start with the state of the profile. Is verification complete? Did Google email you about a suspended or restricted profile? An unverified or suspended profile does not show to people the way it should.
These common causes go against Google's guidelines and can get a profile suspended:
- Adding keywords or city names to the business name, such as "XYZ Web Design Company Amman" when the real name is shorter.
- Using a virtual office or PO box as the address, with no place where staff receive customers during business hours.
- Having more than one profile for the same business at the same address.
- Changing the name or address many times in a short period.
If your business appears when people search its name but not when they search for the service, the problem is ranking. Look at your category, your reviews, and the distance between the searcher and your business.
Can you show up on Google Maps in a city where you have no office?
On the map, that is hard, because Google explicitly lists proximity to the searcher as a factor. If you serve customers at their location, you can set service areas in the profile, though that does not guarantee you will appear in every city you add.
The clearer route to other cities is regular search. A page on your site about your service in that city or country, with real content about how you work there and the projects you have done there, can rank in the results below the map. If you open a physical office there, create a separate profile for it with its own address and phone number.
Can other people change the details on your Google Maps listing?
Yes, indirectly. Any user can suggest an edit to your hours, address or phone number, and Google may accept it if it believes the change is correct. A common story is a phone number that changes, or wrong hours that get added, and the owner does not notice for weeks. Log in to the profile at least every two weeks and review suggested edits and the details people see.
How does your website support your Google Maps listing?
Link the profile to a clear page on your site, and give each main service its own page. If you serve more than one city or country, name them clearly on those pages. Add LocalBusiness structured data with your address, phone and service areas, as we explain in our guide to schema structured data. We cover the wider side of this in showing up in AI answers, since generative engines read the same signals.
We set up business profiles and connect them to the website as part of our search and AI visibility service. Send us your business name and city and we will review your current profile.
Questions our partners ask
Do I need a real address to show up on Google Maps?
Yes. Google asks for an address it can verify. If you serve customers at their location and they never visit you, you can hide the address and set service areas instead.
Can I ask customers for reviews?
Yes, a polite request after you finish the job is allowed. What is not allowed is buying reviews, offering something in return for them, or writing them under fake names. That can get the reviews removed or the profile restricted.
How long does it take to show up on Google Maps?
Once the profile is verified, it may show up quickly when people search your business name. Showing up for general phrases, like your service plus your city, takes time, reviews and steady activity.
